Setting Goals

Though the school year only kicked off three weeks ago, Lake Arthur Elementary School (LAES) is already busy tackling goals. Here, fifth grade teacher Sharon Berken met with Whitney Zaunbrecher to set yearly goals. Hosting student conferences and using student data to drive instruction is part of the educational process at LAES, according to Principal Mia Orgeron.  Student conferences are held throughout the year to give students the opportunity to take ownership of their work. Students use “data binders” to track their own attendance, behavior and grades weekly, then set attainable goals. Teachers meet individually with students to discuss their progress.
