Lacassine defeats Midland for third time to advance to Class B Quarterfinals

LACASSINE – It was all set to be another battle between two fierce district 6-B rivals Monday night at John Juneau Gymnasium, however this contest had just a little bit more on the line than most others- a trip to the Class B State Quarterfinals. The Lady Cardinals swept a pair of league contests to the Lady Rebels in league play, but for the first three quarters of basketball it appeared another epic ending may be in the making. It was, but the home-standing Lady Cardinals pulled through with a 58-50 victory to move on to face the No. 1 Holden Lady Rockets Thursday night.
After jumping out to as large as a 12 in the second quarter, Midland used a tenacious full-court press defense to force the Lady Cardinals into numerous turnovers in building the lead. However, Lacassine took advantage of a tired Lady Rebel group by going on a 8- run late in the second stanza to tighten things back up and make it a ball game going into the half.
“That was huge for us. We were at a point where we needed to find a way to get something going, find open looks and get some stops defensively because the (Hannah) Credeur girl was shooting it just unconsciously for Midland,” said Lady Cardinal Head Coach Jeremy Hollier. “Getting some things going out of the press break was big and that run turned the tide in the game. I’m just so proud of the way this team battled tonight because it took everyone doing a little something to help us win.”
