At the American Legion Department of Louisiana 7th District Spring Conference held in Lake Charles on March 11, 7th District Commander A. J. Jones (right) presented the 7th District’s Citizen of the Year Award to Donn E. Dees (left) from Jennings. The 7th District is made up of 35 American Legion Posts situated in 8 southwest Louisiana parishes. Dees was the Jennings Kiwanis Club Citizen of the Year for the city of Jennings. He was nominated for the 7th District award by James O. Hall Post 19 of the American Legion from Jennings.

Jones (right) presented the 7th District’s Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award to Lieutenant Mike Janise (left) of the Jennings Police Department. Janise has worked in Law Enforcement since 1993 and has worked with the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office for seven years with the remainder of his career being spent with the Jennings Police Department. He has worked in several areas of that department.
At the American Legion Department of Louisiana 7th District Spring Conference held in Lake Charles on March 11, 7th District Commander A.J. Jones (right) presented the 7th District’s Firefighter of the Year Award to John H. “Johnny” Navarre, Jr. (left) of the Jennings Fire Department. Navarre has been associated with the Jennings Fire Department first as a volunteer and then as a full-time firefighter for the last 28 years. He has earned numerous certifications during his years as a Firefighter.
My van struggled. I suspected that the catalytic converter was finally plugged beyond usefulness. I am thirty miles from home and only risked this trip to check its dependability. Now I know. It needs work. So, here I stand with cars and trucks buzzing by a few yards south of me and my beleaguered vehicle. I summoned a wrecker and resolved myself to wait.
