BATON ROUGE (AP) — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is holding its final webinar Tuesday for shrimpers who want state help buying turtle escape hatches for their skimmer nets.
Attending such a webinar is required for reimbursement, and the last one will be at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the department said in a news release Thursday.
Starting Aug. 1, federal regulators will require turtle excluder devices, often called TEDs, in skimmer nets on boats that are at least 40 feet long.
The state program will pay up to 60% of the cost of two skimmer net TEDs.
