Dog owners get $75K in pact over deputy’s canine killing

BATON ROUGE (AP) — The owners of a dog that was shot and killed by a Louisiana sheriff’s deputy will receive $75,000 in a settlement of their lawsuit against a sheriff who has had legal troubles.

The settlement isn’t an “admission of liability” by Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal and Deputy Lucas Plauche, says the March 26 release signed by the dog’s owners, Teddy Sonnier and his son, Brance.

China lists $50B of US goods it may hit with tariff

BEIJING (AP) — China on Wednesday issued a $50 billion list of U.S. goods including soybeans and small aircraft for possible tariff hikes in an escalating and potentially damaging technology dispute with Washington.

The country’s tax agency gave no date for the 25 percent increase to take effect and said it will depend on what President Donald Trump does about U.S. plans to raise duties on a similar amount of Chinese goods.

YouTube shooter told family she ‘hated’ the company

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (AP) — A woman who believed she was being suppressed by YouTube and told her family members she “hated” the company opened fire at the company’s headquarters in California, wounding three people before killing herself, police said.

Investigators do not believe Nasim Aghdam specifically targeted the three victims when she pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds in a courtyard at YouTube’s headquarters south of San Francisco on Tuesday, police said.

Trump advisers urge against hasty US retreat from Syria

WASHINGTON (AP) — With a decision seemingly imminent about whether to bring home U.S. troops from Syria, President Donald Trump’s national security team is advising against a hasty withdrawal even as he makes his preference clear: “I want to get out.”

Trump’s director of national intelligence, Dan Coats, told reporters Wednesday that the White House would announce a decision about America’s military involvement in the war-torn country “relatively soon.” Coats said national security officials held an “all-hands-on deck” meeting Tuesday and “some decisions were made.”

France puts 78,000 security threats on vast police database

PARIS (AP) — France has flagged more than 78,000 people as security threats in a database intended to let European police share information on the continent’s most dangerous residents — more than all other European countries put together — according to an analysis by The Associated Press.

JPD arrests four in motel drug deal

Officers of the Jennings Police Department arrested four people Tuesday after receiving a call about a possible drug deal occurring at an area motel.

Tyson Mouton, 32, of Jennings was arrested and charged with possession of heroin and marijuana, as well as criminal damage to property.

Alia Bryant, 20, of Jennings was arrested and charged with possession of Schedule 2 drugs and resisting an officer.

Welsh officials: Discolored water caused by new storage tanks

WELSH – In the past two weeks, residents here may have noticed something different about the water coming from the faucets in their homes – instead of being clear, it is sometimes colored pink or brown. The issue, caused by the town’s switch to a new water storage system, was addressed at the regular meeting of the board of aldermen Tuesday evening.

The issue began when switching over from the town’s former groundwater storage tank to the first of two newly built tanks, Mayor Carolyn Louviere said.

Jamie Bergeron and The Kickin’ Cajuns entertained the crowd gathered for the opening night of Turn It Up Tuesdays at Founder’s Park in downtown Jennings. There were spells of rain at the beginning of the event, but this did not deter the band from playing nor the audience from dancing.
