LAKE ARTHUR - Funeral services for Mr. Alfred Wallin Meyer, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, in Miguez Funeral

Home chapel in Lake Arthur, with Bro. Darrell Hieronymus officiating.

Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Mr. Meyer’s wishes were to be cremated.

Mr. Meyer passed away at 11:49 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, in his residence surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Viborg, South Dakota, and grew up in Belmond, Iowa. He attended Waldrof College in Forest City, Iowa, for two years. Then he attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, to complete his pharmacy degree. He was a resident of Lake Arthur for the past 59 years. He owned Meyer Rexall (Health Mart) for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired registered pharmacist. He was a member of the Gideons International and LA State Pharmacy Board. He was past president of the Chamber of Commerce and secretary/treasurer for the Rod and Gun Club of Lake Arthur. He was also a member of the Lake Arthur Yacht club for many years. He was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maxine Norstrum Meyer of Lake Arthur; two daughters, Linda Fonger and husband Michael of Lake Arthur and LeaAnn Yancey and husband Matthew of Fort Worth, Texas; one son, Kirk Meyer of Katy, Texas; four grandchildren, Lacey Herbstler and husband Jason of Lafayette, Rayce Mayor of Lake Arthur, Stuart Yancey of Austin, Texas, and Spencer Yancy of Fort Worth, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Brandon and Micaiah Herbstler; three sisters, Beverly (Vernon) Hulsing of Mason City, Iowa, Fern (Mark) Spellmeyer of Clarion, Iowa, and Marjorie (Stan) Pearson of VanMeter, Iowa; three brothers, Vernon (Carolyn) Meyer of Westlake, Roger (Linda) Meyer of Goodell, Iowa, and Richard (Loree) Meyer of Sulphur; sister-in-law, Mardell Meyer of Belmond, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Margaret Wagner Meyer; his son-in-law, Stephen Mayor; his son, Ted William Meyer; and his brother, Gary Meyer.
