Arthur James Derouen, 83, of Welsh passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh, with Rev. Alan Trouille officiating. The family will start receiving friends at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Arthur was born Aug. 8, 1935, in Lake Arthur.

Arthur proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Hector from 1957 to 1961. In his younger years, he was an athlete maintaining a state high jump record for a few years. He also played basketball and football as well. His children recall many weekends watching Poppie play softball tournaments. His love for sports continued with watching his children and then grandchildren compete. He loved to fish and spend the time with his children. Arthur was a calm, compassionate man who loved his family more than anything, but especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was most compassionate of living on the patch of dirt on which he was raised.

Those left behind to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 62 years, Dolores Walker Derouen; children, Debra (Tony Trahan) O’Shields of Carlyss, Tammy (late Robert) Romero of Carlyss, Melissa (Roland) Landry of Welsh, Melinda (Tom) Vining of Gonzales, Andre’ Joseph (Leona) Derouen of Welsh and Danielle (Keith) Price of Fulshear, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Arthur J. Derouen, Jr.; son-in-law, Robert Romero; two great-grandchildren; and parents, Arthur and Aspasie Dugas Derouen.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hixsonwelsh.com for the Derouen family.
