A Mass of Christian burial For Druse “DA” Deshotel, 87, of Jennings will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Friday, July 13, 2018, at 2 p.m., with Father Charles McMillin officiating.

Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home beginning today, Thursday, July 12, from 4-10 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. by Ira and Dorothy Fontenot and Carly and Chloe Deshotel.

The family requests that visitation resume on Friday, July 13, from 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Druse was born in Tepatate on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1930, to Melvin Deshotel, Sr. and Annie Ortego Deshotel. He was called from this life on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 while surrounded by his loving family.

Druse loved being outdoors, cooking or barbecuing. He loved his Cajun heritage, his church, as well as spending time with his family and friends. Druse was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Druse is survived by beloved wife of 70 years, Doris Fontenot Deshotel of Jennings; his daughter, Lou Deshotel Ewing (Cleve) of Jennings; his son, Wayne Deshotel (Stephanie) of Moss Bluff; his two sisters, Gurtis Kufel of Grey and Anna Mae LeBlanc of Hathaway; as well as nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Druse was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Annie Deshotel; his brothers, John D. Deshotel, Adam Hugh Deshotel and Melvin Deshotel, Jr.; his sisters, Thelma Andrepont, Louella Andrepont, Elverda Doga, Audrey Pousson and Effie Chaisson.

Carrying Druse to his final resting place in Calvary Cemetery will be Kevin Ryder, Shane Deshotel, Hunter Hebert, Chuck Segura, Chris Johnson, Tim Gatte, and Braydie Gatte. Honorary pallbearers will be Nate Deshotel, Ethan Deshotel, and Zayne Thibodeaux.

The Family of Druse would like to give special thanks to his hospice nurses, Terri Millet and Kelly Breaux, as well as all of his caregivers.
