It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Evelyn Richard McFarlain of Jennings announces her passing from this life on March 16, 2018 at the age of 79.

Funeral services for Evelyn will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at 11 a.m., with Reverend James Townley officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home beginning on Monday, March19, 2018, from 2:30-10 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, from 9 a.m. until the time of her service at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in Bluff Cemetery.

Evelyn was born in Evangeline to Amos Richard and Una Miller Richard on Feb. 21, 1939. She was a homemaker who dedicated her life to the care of her family. She loved to crochet, draw, read and learn all she could about history. Evelyn’s greatest love was spending time with and caring for her family. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Evelyn is survived by her mother, Una M. Richard of Jennings; her four children, Dessie Prejean (Wayne) of Jennings,Diane Trahan (Steve) of Iota, Celina Mc Morris (David) of Jennings and Raymond Dural McFarlain (Connie) of Grand Lake; her brothers and sisters, Iris Gatte of Evangeline, Gene Ludren Richard (Susie) of Evangeline, Carol Ardoin of Jennings, Harvey Richard (Ginny) of Evangeline, Elsie Gatte (Danny) of Gott’s Cove and Connie Bergeaux (Russell) of Evangeline; as well as 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her father, Amos Richard; her brother, Curtis Keith Richard; and her brothers-in-law, Hank Ardoin and Nolan Gatte.
