Four arrested for attempted burglary

Four people wanted by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office in connection with an attempted burglary of an Iowa home Tuesday morning have been arrested in Acadia Parish for an attempted burglary there.

Ashley DeJean, 32, of Breaux Bridge, Kerwin Morris, 50, of Crowley, Curley Hines, 25, of Lafayette and Darius Bellard, 24, of Carencro were arrested by the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office Tuesday afternoon. The four are accused of various charges including felony possession of stolen things, aggravated burglary and resisting an officer.

Around 9 a.m. Tuesday, the suspected burglars were seen attempting to break into a home located on Pousson Road in Iowa. Before authorities could arrive to the scene, DeJean, Morris, Hines and Bellard were seen getting into a red truck and traveling toward Bourque Road and onto Highway 101, Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chris Ivey said.

Detectives sought information about the suspects on Facebook, asking for any homeowners who may have captured security footage along their route out of Iowa to turn it into authorities.

But soon after, the suspects were caught in Acadia Parish allegedly trying to break into a home there.

The four were arrested and are being held in the Acadia Parish jail. Bail has not been set for their release, officials said.

The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office is attempting to obtain warrants on the four individuals so they can be charged for attempted burglary here, Ivey said.
