Funeral services for Glinda Marie Doucet were held Monday, May 14, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Melancon Funeral Home in Bunkie, with lifetime friend and lay speaker Thomas Smith officiating.

The family requested that visitation be observed at Melancon Funeral Home on Monday, May 14, 2018, from 8-11 a.m.

Burial was at 1 p.m. in the Raymond United Methodist Cemetery in Raymond Hathaway area.

Ms. Doucet, age 68, of Bunkie passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at her residence.

She and her twin sister were born in Jennings on Aug. 15, 1949. She graduated from Hathaway High School in 1967. She attended McNeese State University and obtained a Bachelor Degree of Arts in 1971 and later earned her Masters Degree from Northwestern University plus other advanced degrees from Louisiana State University. She began her teaching career in Simmesport in Avoyelles Parish and then transferred to Bunkie Elementary, where she implemented a French program until her retirement. She earned many honors including Teacher of the Year, Region Finalist and State Finalist. She attended Southern Methodist University and became an Ordained Methodist Minister. She was named Outstanding Young Woman in America in 1988.

Her love of teaching and children centered her life. However, her love of animals, especially golden retrievers, was unique. Those who shared her life were Maggie, Chloe, Jack, Hailey, Tillie, Jessie and her niece, the great doxie, Greta Van Compton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Lillian Doucet; her twin sister, Linda Doucet; her brother, Edward J. Doucet; her sister-in-law, Jean Doucet; and brother-in-law, Jesse Compton.

She is survived by her sister, Pat Compton of Bunkie; her brothers, Elmer Doucet of Jennings and Dan (wife, Bernadette and great niece, Madisyn) of Niceville, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Nakita Paul of Garland, Texas, plus several nieces, great nieces and nephews.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jackie Thomason, Lawrence Venable, Lestor Leger, Jimmy Ferguson, Dan Doucet and Elmer Doucet.

Thanks to All Saints Hospice and a special thanks to her private duty nurse, Valerie Stevens for her roundthe-clock dedication. The family asks that all memorials in memory of Glinda Doucet be sent to Hathaway S.A.F.E., P.O. Box 1150, Jennings, LA 70546.
