A Mass of Christian burial for Bernice Istre Myers of Jennings will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jennings at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home today, Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 2-9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters of America. The family requests that visitation resume Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 10 a.m. until the time of her funeral mass at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Bernice was born in Jennings on Aug. 22, 1940, to

Bernice was born in Jennings on Aug. 22, 1940, to Leonard McNeal and Ophelia Kershaw McNeal and was called home to her Heavenly Father on May 7, 2022.

Bernice was very involved in her church and community over the years. She was a church volunteer and a member of the church choir, and she was heavily involved in Band Boosters, CCD and Ladies Altar Society. She was treasurer of the VFC and was a state winner. Bernice was also on the Parish Fair Board and managed the South Jennings Catholic Federal Credit Union for most of her adult life.

All in all, Bernice led a life of service for her church and community. She was a loving and giving woman, a devoted wife and mother and she will be greatly missed by her family and her community. Bernice is survived by her husband, Clifford P. Myers

Myers of Jennings; her daughters, Angela Istre Sneed of Baton Rouge, Christina Istre Reaux (Ted) of Indian Bayou, April Istre Simon (Gene) of Evangeline and Dawn Istre Richard (Mike) of Baton Rouge; her stepdaughter, Diane Broussard of Lake Charles; her stepsons, Cecil Myers and Larry Myers of Jennings; her 10 grandchildren, Josh, Jacob, Rebecca, Caeli, Alex, Canaan, Chris, Gene, Jr., Dewey and Jared; her four step-grandchildren; her 11 great-grandchildren; her three step-great-grandchildren and her sister, Mary Touchet of Welsh.

Bernice now rejoices in heaven with her parents, Leonard McNeal and Ophelia Kershaw McNeal; her first husband, Herman J. Istre; her son-in-law, David Sneed; her grandchild, Gabriel Richard; her stepdaughter, Roxanne Myers; her two brothers, Jackson Lee McNeal and Jimmy McNeal, and her sister, Anna Mae Benoit.

Those chosen to honor her as her pallbearers will be her grandsons, Josh Sneed, Jacob Sneed, Chris Simon, Gene Simon, Jr., Dewey Simon, Alex Reaux, Canaan Reaux and Jared Richard.
