A Mass of Christian burial for Curby Joseph Richard, 86, of Evangeline was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Evangeline Monday, March 9, 2020, at 2 p.m., with Father Paul LaFleur officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was held in Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings Monday, March 9, 2020, from 9 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass.

Curby will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Evangeline.

Curby was born in Evangeline on May 8, 1933, to Noah Richard and Amelia Doucet Richard. He was called to his Heavenly Father on March 6, 2020. Curby served our country honorably in the Army. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and raising cattle. Curby was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Cattle Association. His greatest joys came from spending time and making memories with all of his family. Curby was a kind and loving person he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Curby is survived by his two daughters, Jonette Richard Parsley (Dickie) of Evangeline and Denise Richard Saxby (Charles) of Westlake; his two stepsons, David M. LeJeune and Steve LeJeune; his four stepdaughters, Tyanna LeJeune, Colette LeJeune, Yvette LeJeune and Stephanie Alvarez; his seven grandchildren; his 10n great-grandchildren; as well as numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Curby was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Amelia Richard; two wives, Mary Beatrice Racca and Anna LeJeune; three sons, John Anthony, Sr., Rodney Joseph and Don Paul Richard; and three siblings, Verbe Sittig, Vernice Hebert and Curly Richard.

Those chosen to honor Curby as his pallbearers were Mitch Richard, Albert Lee Hebert, Will Fontenot, Eli Coleman, Harvey Richard and Rod LeJeune.

His honorary pallbearer was Stoney Sittig.

The family of Curby would like to send a very special Thank You to all of his caregivers, Dr. McNally, Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care and the staff of Jennings American Legion Hospital for all of their kindness and compassion that they showed him in his time of need.
