A native of Roanoke, he married his high school sweetheart, Annette Broussard Troutman, while the two were students at Louisiana Tech University. Upon graduation from Louisiana Tech, David and Annette returned to Welsh where they would raise Eric, Leann, Regan and Madison. David was a devoted father, grandfather, teacher, coach and principal.

His life was defined by his love for family and his passion for education. For 20 years, David taught world geography, world history and physical education at Elton High School and Welsh High School, while coaching football, boys’ and girls’ basketball, track and tennis.

After his time in the classroom, David became the principal at Kinder High School. From there he would return to Elton High School as the principal, and finally settled in to Lacassine High School where he would retire after six years. Never one to accept the status quo when it came to educating children and advocating for teachers, after retirement David ran for and was elected as a Jefferson Davis Parish School Board representative, where he served his community for five years. When not at home, David could be found at the family farm in Ardoin Cove. He will be remembered for his humor, his light heart and his positive can-do attitude.

David is survived by his adoring wife of 43 years, Annette; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Kelli Troutman; daughters and sons-in-law, Leann and Tim Guinn, Regan Troutman and Chase Fruge, and Madison Troutman; grandchildren, Cooper and Sawyer Guinn, Ross Fruge and Olivia Troutman; sisters, Frances McCarty (Edward) and Mary Kay Epperly; brothers, Leonard (Martha), Harold and Carl; God-children, Joey Broussard and Hannah Gates; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Francis and Irma Troutman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. A.C. and Mrs. Vera Broussard; twin sister, Debbie Demarest; and brothers, Roy, Kenneth and Don.
