MERMENTAU - A Mass of Christian burial for Dennis James Broussard, 68, of Mermentau will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau today, Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, at 2:30 p.m.

A gathering of family and friends was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings beginning Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume today, Thursday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass.

James will be laid to rest in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery with Full Military Rites.

Dennis James Broussard was born in Lafayette on March 12, 1951, to Willis Broussard and Rena Guidry Broussard. He was called to his Heavenly Father on Oct. 21, 2019.

James served our country honorably in the Marines. He worked as a bridge tender for the railroad until his retirement. James loved to go fishing or bowling, play golf and listen to music. James truly loved spending time with all of his family, especially his grandchildren. James was a kind and loving person. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

James is survived by his father, Willis Broussard (Grace) of Sulphur; his beloved wife, Bernadine R. Broussard of Mermentau; his three sons, Damon Broussard (Kristie) of Mermentau, Stephen Broussard (Kacie) of Egan and Matthew Broussard (Anna Mack) of Mermentau; his five daughters, Regina Bessonet (Alan) of Port Allen, Monica Lejeune (Derrick Lemalle) of Lake Charles, Marcia Broussard of Mermentau, Janet Semmes (Christopher) of Jennings and Melissa D’Antoni (John) of Lake Charles; his brother, Harold Broussard (Stephenee) of Mermentau; his two sisters, Sandra Henry (Mark) of Morse and Peggy Broussard of Mermentau; and his 22 grandchildren, Molly, Michael, Marcus, Martin, Victoria, Layne, Colton, Taylor, Hannah, Zachary, Benjamin, Grant, Ada, Sadie, Saige, Dylan, Aria, Kaitlyn, Tucker, Jackson, Ross and Christinea.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Rena G. Broussard; his sister, Janet Marie Broussard; his granddaughter, Kaylee Renee’ Broussard; and his grandparents, Willie Broussard and Bertha Lanerie, Abel Guidry and Ozelia Lormand.
