It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Dennis Michael Egelston, Sr., of Jennings announces his passing from this life on June 9, 2019, at the age of 72.

Funeral services will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home today, Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at 7 p.m., with Deacon Mike Tramel officiating and American Legion Post 19 honoring him with full military rites.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home today, Tuesday, from 3 p.m. until the time of his service.

Mike’s wishes were to be cremated and the family will have a graveside service at a later date.

Mike was born in Seattle, Wash., on June 14, 1946, to Delmar M. Egelston and Patricia Fisher Egelston. Mike served our country honorably in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He also was a commercial pilot and an airplane enthusiast. In his spare time, Mike loved to build model aircraft and tell stories about WWII, a subject that he was very knowledgeable about. Most of all, Mike enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family, his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Egelston of Jennings; his son, Dennis “Mike” Egelston, Jr. (Courtney) of Jennings; his 10 grandchildren, Kylie Egelston LeBlanc (Jeremy), Amanda Egelston, Meagan Albert, Chelsea Busby, Ashley Busby, Hanna Egelston, Mychelle Egelston, Eleanor Egelston, Isabella Reeves and Nevaeh Copeland; his four great-grandchildren, Kyle LeBlanc, Kayson LeBlanc, Karlee LeBlanc and Aleigha LeBlanc; and his two sisters, Pat Lile of Missouri and Leslie Harvey of New Mexico.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Patricia Egelston; his daughter, Shannon Patricia Egelston Busby; and his sister, Laurel Kerns.
