Funeral services for Mr. Ernest “Sheeney” Gautreaux, 80, will be held at 10 a.m.Thursday, June 24, 2021, in St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, with Father Randal Moreau officiating.

Visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 23, 2021, with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Mr. Gautreaux died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2021, in a local care center.

Mr. Gautreaux retired from the Acadia Parish School Board as a school bus driver after 30 years of service. Mr. Gautreaux proudly served the Village of Mermentau as an alderman from 1978 until 1982, as Mayor from 1982 to 1990 and again as alderman and Mayor Pro-Tem from 2007 until 2014.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bonnie B. Gautreaux of Mermentau; sister and brother-in-law, Flo and Ronnie Cormier of Mermentau; three nephews, Martin (Barry) Cormier of Georgetown, Texas, R. Keith Cormier of Lafayette, and Kevin (Fran) Klein of Jennings; two nieces, Laura (Joe) Lakatos of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Renetta (Kevin) Breaux of Lake Arthur; one great-niece, Lindsey Lakatos of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three great-nephews, Kyle (Meghan) Klein of Lake Arthur, Robbie (Alexis) Klein of Lake Arthur and Nick (Sadie) Klein of Roanoke.

Mr. Gautreaux was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Gladys Broussard Gautreaux.

Those chosen to serve as pallbearers are Kyle, Robbie and Nick Klein, Marty and Keith Cormier and Ricky Istre.

Honorary pallbearers are Murphy Gautreaux, Larson LeBlanc, Alden Duhon, Gary Viator and Melvin “Blue” LeBlanc.
