A Mass of Christian burial for Eva Dale Istre Sonnier, 63, of Elton will be held at St Lawrence Catholic Church in Hathaway today, Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, at 11 a.m., with Father Bill Miller officiating.

Visitation was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019, from 3-9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume today, Friday, from 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral Mass.

Eva will be laid to rest in St. Ann Cemetery.

Eva was born in Lafayette on Feb. 7, 1956, to Eddie Anthony Istre and Olite Mary Viator Istre. She was called to her Heavenly Father on Nov. 26, 2019.

Eva was a homemaker who dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She loved being outdoors, raising animals, gardening, cooking and fishing. Eva was a den mother for Cub Scouts for several years, in Elton and Welsh. Eva’s greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family making memories. Eva never met a stranger and she loved to visit with family and friends. Eva was a kind and loving person she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Eva is survived by her beloved husband, Harvey J. Sonnier, II, of Elton; her two sons, Eddie James Istre Sonnier (Kari) of Asher, Okla., and Harvey J. Sonnier, III, of Elton; her daughter, Labrishca Sonnier (Chuck Davis) of Elton; her three brothers, Glen Istre (Zula) of Gueydan, Charles Istre of Lake Arthur and Alvin Istre (Dula Mari) of Abbeville; her sister, Shirley Young of Hathaway; her nine grandchildren, Hannah Grace and Emma Claire Sonnier, Wyatt, Bryton Seth, Toni Dione Bouley, Kaytlin and Carley Davis, and Destiny and Mackenzie Duhon.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Olite Istre; five brothers; and five sisters.
