Gerald P. Dugas, 72, passed away Feb. 29, 2020, at his home in Lafayette in the presence of his beloved wife, immediate family and friends.

He lost the battle to Lou Gehrig’s Disease and front lobe dementia and is now at peace.

A memorial celebration of life service will be held at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings Saturday, May 23, 2020, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ty Moore, Sr., officiating.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Please note that the gathering capacity will be limited to 25 percent seating capacity of the funeral home, as per state compliance.

Mr. Dugas was born Dec. 14, 1947, in Jennings to Alcee and Lillian Dugas.

Mr. Dugas was a resident of Jennings for 30 years before moving to Lafayette for the past 40 years. He was a retired consultant in the oil and gas company.

Gerald enjoyed dancing, kayaking, his two dogs, yard work, birdwatching, football and working out at the gym. He was an alumnus of the Class of 1971 from USL.

He is survived by his wife, Tonyia Smith Dugas of Lafayette; four daughters, Brandi Lance of Ocean Springs, Miss., Rosalyn Richard of Sulphur, Jenna Vasseur of Moss Bluff and Kelsey Dugas of Houston, Texas; two sons, Rhett Hacket of Lafayette and Lance Dugas of Texas; one sister, Susan Semmes of Hathaway; three brothers, Donald Dugas and Charlie Dugas, both of Lake Arthur, and Carroll Dugas of Lake Charles; and several grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy and condolence, memorial contributions to assist in medical costs, etc. may be sent to his widow, Tonyia Dugas, 125 Boulder Drive, Lafayette, LA 70508
