LAKE ARTHUR - A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church for James David “J.D.” Roy, 82, of Lake Arthur today, Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, at 4 p.m., with Father Jay Alexis officiating.

Visitation was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 1-8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. The family requests that visitation resume today, Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass.

Burial will follow in Andrus Cove Cemetery.

James was born in GueydanA on April 11, 1937, to Davis Roy and Rose Bonin Roy. James was called from this life on Jan. 26, 2020. James served our country honorably in the Army. He loved raising birds and doing woodworking. His greatest joys came from spending time and making memories with all of his family. James was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

James is survived by his four sons, James Roy of Katy, Texas, Charles Roy of Lake Arthur and Larry Roy and Blaise Roy of Baton Rouge; 12 grandchildren, Courtney, Victoria, Corey, Joshua, Matthew, Zachary, Sarah, Mary, Whitnie, Lindsie, Jordon and Leyton; 17 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Barbara “Bobbie” Roy of Lake Arthur.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Davis and Rose Roy; his wife, Eula Mae Roy; two sons, Robin Roy and Tony Roy; and his sister, Betty Guidry.

The family of J.D. would like to send a very special thank you to all his caregivers, Angie Thibodeaux, Ladonna Benoit, Annette Hawkins, Polly Bellard, Ursula Caro, Marlene Broussard, Kim Bourgeois and Sonia Conner, and a heartfelt thank you to Heart of Hospice and all their workers.

Those chosen to honor James as his pallbearers will be Joshua Roy, Matthew Roy, Zachary Roy, Jarett Dobson and Leyton Roy.
