It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Janaiya Danee Dartez announces her passing from this life on Dec. 5, 2019, at the age of 21.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jennings Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, at 11 a.m., with Father Jude Fernando officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held in the church Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, from 9 a.m. until the time of her service at 11 a.m., with a Rosary recited at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in Our Lady of Perpetual Care Cemetery.

Janaiya was born in Jennings to Jarriel Palfrey and Jacqueline Dartez on May 9, 1998. She worked as a private caregiver. Janaiya loved to laugh, dance and do hair. She was very creative with her hands. Janaiya was a very faithful woman and loved to attend church services. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janaiya is survived by her son, Daiton Dartez of Jennings; her mother, Jacqueline Dartez of Jennings; her eight brothers, Trariel, Jacorien, Dontae, Javiel, Kenneth, Kenan, Jarriel, Jr., and Kevian; her five sisters, Janyri, Jacarli, Ailyn, Kacee and Quaimie; her maternal grandmother, Connie (Dorsey) Skinner of Jennings; her maternal grandfather, Timothy (Dawn) Davis, Sr., of Lake Charles; her maternal great-grandmother, Lillie Mae Black of Lake Charles; her paternal grandmother, Doris Palfrey; her paternal great-grandparents, Emily and Herman Pelican; her two aunts, Alexis Datez and Shena Rosette; her three uncles, Clarence Dartez, Tyre Davis and Timothy Davis, Jr.; her Godparents, Angelle Jenkins and Nicholas Simeon, Sr.; as well as numerous extend family and friends.

Janaiya was preceded in death by her father, Jarriel Palfrey; her grandfather, Kenneth Pelican, Sr; and her uncle, Kenneth Pelican, Jr.
