John Winston Smith

Funeral services for John Winston Smith will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, with Frankie Ardoin officiating.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of his funeral services.

John will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery following his service.

John Winston Smith, 79, of Jennings was born Feb. 13, 1941, in Ville Platte and was called home to his Heavenly Father on Dec. 9, 2020. He was a devout Christian and was an inspiration to many for his faith and trust in the Lord. For many years, John worked in construction and was a heavy equipment crane operator. He loved fishing, watching football, talking of his glory days when he played for Ville Platte High School and most of all, his fellowship with family, friends and his brothers and sisters in Christ. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Shirley Smith; parents, Fred Smith and Lilly Tate; brother, William Nelams; sister, Gayle Smith Medus; sons, John W. Smith, Jr., David Chad Smith and John Phillip Ardoin; and daughter in law, Judy Ardoin.

John is survived by his children, Tammy (Ronnie) Chamberlin of Glenmora, Faylyn (Jerry) Willis of Oakdale, Joey Smith of Oakdale, Darren (Tracie) Smith of Jennings, James Dean Smith of Jennings and Frankie Ardoin of Ponchatoula; as well as numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
