The family and friends of Laura Courville Abshire are mourning the loss of their mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister and friend who was called from this life on Dec. 12, 2022, at the age of 95.

Funeral services to honor Laura’s life will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jennings, with Trey Ange’ officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, from 3 p.m. until the time of her service, with a Rosary recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Laura was born on July 14, 1927, to Oscar Courville and Emma Leger. Laura was a homemaker who dedicated her life to the care of her family whom she adored. She was a very faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and she was a member of Ladies Altar Society and Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a board member of South Jennings Catholic Federal Credit Union.

Laura also loved to sew and crochet in her spare time. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Laura was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Laura is survived by her two children, Richard Abshire (Mary Beth) of Winnie, Texas, and Linda Brown (Gaylor) of Jennings; her grandchildren, David Brown of Jennings, Christy Daigle of Jennings, Jason Abshire of Dallas, Texas, and Ben Abshire (Nichole) of Penn.; her great-grandchildren, Ryan Brown, Alyson Brown, Michael Daigle and Tyler Daigle and her great great-grandson, Hudson Michael Daigle.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Emma Courville; her husband, Onezime “Bill” Abshire; seven brothers, Henry Courville, A.J. Courville, Wilson Courville, Morris Courville, Tony Courville, Nelson Courville and George Courville and three sisters, Lelia Manuel, Loris LeJeune and Rose Meche.

Those chosen to honor her as pallbearers will be Ricky Abshire, David Brown, Alyson Brown, Ben Abshire, Jason Abshire and and Ryan Brown.
