A Mass of Christian burial for Melanie Hardy, 65, of Evangeline was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Evangeline, with Father Paul LaFleur officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, from 3-8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation resumed Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral mass at 11 a.m. Melanie will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Evangeline.

Melanie was born in Jennings on Jan. 24, 1957, to Archie Parsley, Sr., and Margaret Suire Parsley. She was called to her Heavenly Father on Oct. 19, 2022.

She was a 1975 graduate of Iota High School. Melanie earned her associate’s degree in accounting from SOWELA.

She worked for Jennings Manufacturing for 18 years in the payroll department before moving on to work for Angelle Concrete and Holiday Inn before retiring. She was also a homemaker who dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She was a great mother and was her son’s biggest supporter in everything he did.

Melanie was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and taught Catechism to the children.

Melanie was a very creative person. She loved to do arts and crafts and loved to bake, as well as go out to eat, travel and camp.

Most of all, Melanie loved spending time with her family, and her grandchildren whom she adored.

Melanie was a kind and loving person and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Melanie is survived by her mother, Margaret Parsley of Jennings; her loving husband of 44 years, Matthew Hardy of Evangeline; her son, Michael Hardy (Renee) of Evangeline; her three grandchildren, Marshall, Evelyn and Laurie; her sister, Tina Disher (Donald) of Evangeline and her brother, Jody Parsley (Christine) of Evangeline.

Melanie is preceded in death by her father, Archie Parsley, Sr.; her nephew, Jonathon Lopez; her paternal grandparents, Alamonde and Henry Parsley and her maternal grandparents, Amanda and Silvan Suire.
