IOTA - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Ruby D. Deshotel announces her passing Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, in the comfort of her home with loving family by her side at the age of 91.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am. Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held atArdoin’s Funeral Home in Iota Sunday, Feb. 14, 2021, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., and will continue Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, from 8 am. until time of services. Catholic Daughters will recite a rosary at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will follow in the Miller Cove Cemetery with Father Jude Thierry, celebrant.

Ruby retired after working 10 years at the Iota State SchooL Ruby loved her family dearly and loved to make people happy. She opened her home to many, whether being a cooked meal or a place to stay. She was a very outgoing person and a very giving person who catered to others.

In her last days, Chasity, Maylee and Prestley kept her very alert. She was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

She leaves behind six children, Earline LaCombe and husband Robert and Loraine Nichols and husband Louis, all of Tee Mamou, Martha Spitzer of Jennings, Linda Gale Roy of Iota, Cheryl Ann Miller and husband Murray of Marrero and Preston Mark Deshotel of Millerville; the joys of her life, her 19 grandchildren, Chasity McDermott, Destany Deshotel, Vickie Lynn Fontenot, Craig Leger, Louis Nichols, Jr., Jamie Fontenot, Lolita Wittge, Libby Ridenour, Paul Roy, Maegen Guidry, Quinten, Slade, Sandon, Gavin and Victoria Miller, Angie Foreman and Robert Foreman, Jr.; 23 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Rufus Deshotel; son, Bobby Dale Deshotel; daughter, Juanita Faye Forman; grandson, Mitchell Roy; her parents, Dolzia and Lucille Hebert Doget; and sons-in-law, Robert Foreman and Leonard Roy.
