Funeral services for Shirley Jeanette Smith will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at 11 a.m.

A gathering of family and friends was held at the funeral home Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, from 5-9 p.m. Visitation will resume today, Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, from 8 a.m. until the time of her service.

Burial will follow her service in Greenwood Cemetery.

Shirley Jeanette Smith, a resident of Jennings, was born Feb. 9, 1943, in Oakdale and passed away on Sept. 22, 2020, at 9:45 a.m. at Heart Hospital of Lafayette due to complications of surgery at the age of 77.

Shirley was a devout Christian and served the Great Almighty for over 40 years. She was admired and respected by everyone. Shirley touched the lives of many children that she taught at Mother’s Day Out Program at First Baptist Church. Shirley was a loving, wife, mother, friend and champion of Christ.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Winston “Smitty” Smith; her children, Frankie Ardoin, Darren and Dean Smith; her stepson, Joey Smith; stepdaughters, Tammy Chamberlin and Fayln Willis; her daughters-in-law, Paula Smith and Tracie Smith; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmus “Kid” Hamm and Susie Byrd Hamm; brothers, Charlie, Lendonn and Billy Hamm; sisters, Kathy Simmons, Helen Rodriguez, Merline Guillory and Della Wagner; sons, John Phillip Ardoin and David Chad Smith; stepson, John W. Smith, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Judy Ardoin.
