Stewart Arthur Berry, 33, of Zurich, Switzerland, recently passed away due to a BASE jumping accident in the Swiss Alps on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018.

Stewart Berry was born on Jan. 17, 1985 in Lake Charles. Growing up, he lived in Jennings, Minden, Lafayette and Spring, Texas.

He studied biological sciences at Colorado State University. In 2013, he enrolled at the University of Zurich to earn his M.S. degree and to be close to the mountains. Stewart continued his work at the Brain Research Institute as a Ph.D student of Neuroscience.

Stewart made and kept strong friendships through his school years, through his love of science, and through his love of the mountains. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication and love of adventure.

Stewart is survived by his mother and stepfather, Georgia and Ronald Hethcox; his father, Ruffner Arthur Berry, Jr.; his grandparents, R.A. and Dot Berry and grandmother, Billie Maxine Cook. Other survivors include aunts Karen Berken and husband Clarence; and Karen Boston and husband Brian, great-aunt Jeannette Mercer, as well as numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Delmah D. Cook.

A loving mountainside memorial was held in Walenstadt, Switzerland.
