HATHAWAY - The school board is looking to purchase an acre of land south of the school on Pine Island Highway here that would be used for possible expansion projects.

During a special meeting Thursday, the board authorized superintendent of schools Kirk Credeur to make a bid on the property. Money from the board’s Dist. 8 contingency funds will be used for the purchase, which appraised at $115,000.

Assistant superintendent of schools John Hall said the property includes a family home.

“If we purchase the property, we’re unsure of what we will do with the house at this time,” he said. “We have ideas for the land itself but no definite plans. There are many factors the board will have to consider before it is decided what the land will be used for.”

Ideas kicked around for the land include additional parking and a new gymnasium but Hall added no plans have been set in stone.

“We have yet to speak to an architect, and we also need to look at how much land the school board has for expansion behind the one acre,” he said. “The one acre borders the school property.”
