A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church for Wymie K. Smith, 87, at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018, with Rev. Charles McMillin officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith was a native of Arnaudville and a graduate of University of Louisiana at Lafayette (then known as Southwest Louisiana Institute). She earned a BA degree in Upper Elementary Education, moved to Jefferson Davis Parish and taught in the schools at Lake Arthur, Hathaway and Jennings for 21 years, after which she taught nearly 10 years in the parochial school system of Our Lady Help of Christians Church.

She retired from teaching after a total of 31 years and then she sought activity in different clubs and organizations of the town and parish. She was the caregiver for her aged parents, Agnes and Alexis Kidder, until their deaths. She survived her husband, Morgan “Bugs” Smith, Jr., by many years. She moved from Jennings to The Woodlands, Texas to be under the care of her son, Morgan Hugh Smith and his wife, Renee, where she continued to live for four years.

She had no brothers or sisters, but she is survived by three children, Alexa Smith Lambert (Louis Lambert), Paula Smith Pendas (Paul Pendas) and Morgan H. Smith (Renee Smith). She had seven grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Our Lady Help of Christians Library or to the Arthritis Foundation.
