WELSH - The parish sales tax collector is again encouraging municipalities to band together to oppose state central collection. Amber Hymel on Tuesday told the Welsh Board of Aldermen and Mayor Carolyn Louviere that this year’s legislative session will once again include two bills aimed at local taxing districts. Under the pre-filed bills, HB 428 and HB 581, the Jeff Davis Parish School Board Central Office would not be collecting and distributing sales tax revenue to local towns on a monthly basis. Instead, the state would collect the local taxes, distribute them quarterly and keep a portion of the revenue. A portion of the revenue would also be used to pay an auditor.
