Redskins’ owner could end up having the last laugh

It’s more than a bit ironic that over the years Redskins owner Daniel Snyder’s game plan to defend the team’s nickname has been much more successful than his plan to defend the team’s end zone.

Killing the Redskins has been a perennial issue for a small group of leftist white eyes who know better than Indians what is and isn’t offensive.

In 2014 Snyder came closest to losing not the name, but the trademark. The US Patent & Trademark office was seriously considering removing trademark protect from ‘Redskins’ because it was allegedly a pejorative term.

Willridge awarded Optimist Club scholarship

Each year, the Optimist Club of Jennings selects one high school senior to recieve the club’s $500 scholarship. That honor went to Jennings High School (JHS) 2020 graduate Charles “CJ” Willridge III.

“It was an honor to be recognized with this award,” Willridge said. “I have always worked hard and strived to do my best.”

He said his future plans are to enroll at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge to study Petroleum Engineering.

2020 CENSUS: ABOID THE KNOCK, RESPOND NOW

The 2020 Census is currently underway. Residents of Louisiana that haven’t already responded, should do so as soon as possible.

“Time is running out,” said assistant regional Census manager Marilyn Stephens. “People need to participate.”

The census initially began on March 12 and was originally scheduled to be complete by Friday, July 31.

Cassidy endorses Millican for DA

The district attorney is officially backing his longtime assistant to become his successor this November.

Wednesday morning Michael Cassidy released a statement saying he supported assistant district attorney Kevin Millican candidacy to be the next district attorney of the 31st Judicial District.

Cassidy chose not to seek re-election after more than three decades in office. As of press time Wednesday, Millican was the only candidate to so far qualify for the Nov. 3 election.

Jarring introduction for La.’s new lawmakers

The timing seemed strange for Attorney General Jeff Landry to challenge Louisiana’s recently enacted mask mandate for the coronavirus outbreak, while he was in quarantine with the virus himself and only a day after the Trump administration supported the face covering requirement.

Emergency rent program suspended

Administered and funded by the Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) in partnership with the State of Louisiana Office of Community Development (OCD), the Louisiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program was designed to help households financially impacted as a result of shutdowns, closures, layoffs, reduced work hours or unpaid leave due to the pandemic. Due to the overwhelming response, the application process has been suspended until further notice.
