ELTON — Ernest Sickey, father, former Chairman of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, and prominent Indian-affairs advocate, passed away peacefully on May 17, at the age of 80.

LACASSINE – The faculty, staff and parents of the Lacassine High School class of 2023 said farewell to their students Thursday night during a ceremony held at John Juneau Gymnasium. Before the students tossed their caps in the air, the administrative staff and guest presenters awarded numerous scholarships and awards to a number of Cardinal graduates.

HOW TO SPEND LOUISIANA’S BETTER-THANEXPECTED REVENUE FORECAST REMAINS UP FOR DEBATE

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana legislators have received a revised sunny revenue forecast with just three weeks left for them to craft and pass a budget. Economists said Thursday that there are hundreds of millions of dollars in additional surplus funds available to spend for this year’s budget. How lawmakers spend the extra funds still remains up for debate. The House is taking the more conservative approach of wanting to pay down debt.
