On September 29, 2018 Knights of Columbus Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Jennings conducted their annual Youth Soccer Challenge at Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Elementary School soccer field in Jennings.

Crowned champions for their respective age groups were, on the front row from left to right, Colleen Fontenot (11-yearold girls), Patrick Fontenot (13-yearold boys), and Owen Oliver (12-year-old boys). Officiating the event for the KCs were, back row from left to right, Carl Benoit, Joel Richert, and Michael Fontenot.

Family of Month, Knight of Month honored at KC meeting

During the October meeting of Knights of Columbus Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Jennings, the family of John and Marietta Louviere was selected as the Council’s Family of the Month for September 2018.

The Louvieres were chosen for being an exemplary Knights of Columbus family.

LaBouve

Brennon and Heather LaBouve of Jennings announce the birth of their son, Collin Joseph, born Aug. 13, 2018.

Collin weighed eight pounds, 10 ounces at birth and was 20 inches long. He was welcomed home by his siblings, William, Parker and Annie.

Maternal grandparents are Loretta Smith and the late Keith Darbonne, both of Jennings. Paternal grandparents are Bobby and Sherree LaBouve of Hathaway.

Robert was an unassuming guy. He and his wife, Mary, were parents to two daughters appropriately named Roberta and Maria. His demise at an early age, around 50, was a shock and a disappointment as early death always is. We were co-workers, he and I, from 1975 until his death. It is interesting how we are reminded of those who have passed on. In this case I thought of him as a tragic soul who never seemed on top of his existence. He seemed always to be weighed down by something.

CASA coordinators address Rotary Club

Janet Jones and Verley Freeman, CASA Volunteer Coordinators, spoke to the Jennings Rotary Club on Oct.9.They presented information on the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program. Volunteers are trained and supported by the CASA staff at Family & Youth to speak in court on behalf of abused or neglected children who have been removed from their homes. Local girl’s drawing chosen for published book

A Jennings Elementary student has drawn her way into a published book.

Eleven-year-old Jenna Morvant, daughter of Brian and Mickey Morvant, has enjoyed drawing for fun from a young age.

Author Mick Strawn, along with coauthor Blake Best, has written a book named “Behind the Screams: The Dream Master Revealed,” which is a spin-off from the movie titled “Nightmare on Elm Street - Part 4: The Dream Master.”
