GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Fifteen-year-old Landon LaBouve made history this summer as the first Welsh High School freshman to compete in the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championship, joining 767 competitors from 42 states in one of the program’s largest national events.

Barrel racer and Hathaway resident Preslie Watson was recently introduced as a 2026-27 Louisiana 4H Equine Ambassador. She is the first student from Jeff Davis Parish to be chosen as a member of the ambassador team.

Lake Arthur 14U rec team has been making a name for themselves, collecting championship rings this summer. The young ball players took home the win in the Scott tournament, defeating the Warchiefs 7-0. The team also brought home some bling from the recent Warm Up Tournament, beating Youngsville 7-4.

A young Jennings powerlifter who has been making a name for himself on the platform recently gained a new teammate in his journey — his twin brother. Twins Gavyn and Logan Morvant recently competed at the G&M Powerhouse Juniors Meet, where both athletes earned state and national records while continuing a family tradition in the sport.
