Since 2010, the month of February has been designated Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.
Teen dating violence is more common than some might think, and there are a variety of signs to watch out for, said Children’s Advocate Cynthia Petry, with Jeff Davis Communities Against Domestic Abuse (CADA).
“Seventeen percent of teens say that their partner has made them afraid,” Petry said. “Statistically, one in five teens say they’ve been in some kind of relationship with abusive behavior.”
