Throughout the month of June, residents from across the state gathered to learn more about the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana. Tribal youth presented lessons on tomahawk and spear throwing, face painting, jewelry making, basket weaving, cooking, storytelling and even the showcasing of the tribe’s traditional Palmetto huts. Visitors were also able to taste fry bread, learn about the Koasati language and were treated to a demonstration of powwow-style dances performed in full regalia.
