As we ride out this last stretch of summer, it’s time to start looking forward to fall gardening weather. There are some tasks to be handled this month. Here is a list of what to do in the garden and landscape this month and into September.

“It was years ago when the children and I went deep into our backyard to pick blackberries.
Area residents gathered under the Officer Shannon Brown Memorial Pavilion in Fenton for the first annual Shannon Brown Sauce Cook Off. Ten teams from Jeff Davis Parish and the surrounding communities, including “Chef Q” and “Chef David” of the Coushatta Casino Resort and Eric Johnson, Sr., competed to see who would named top sauce chef. The event was held in honor of fallen Fenton Police Officer Shannon Brown.
Seven recent high school graduates, including two parish students, were awarded scholarships through CITGO Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex.
Dr. Megan Duhon of Jennings and Dr. Gerard “Gerry” Scannell III of St. Petersburg, Fla. recently married as they eloped across Paris and Provence, France, as well as Lake Como, Tuscany and Rome, Italy during the months of June and July.
