Anne Cheryl Durio Heard was called to her heavenly home from her work here on Earth on May 18, 2018, surrounded by her family at North Regional Rehab Center in Baton Rouge.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held today, Friday, May 25, 2018, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.

Anne was born on May 2, 1946, in Jennings to the marriage of Junius Charles Durio and Louella Thibodeaux. She was raised in a traditional home setting and religion was emphasized through the Catholic Church. Anne was a loving daughter who exhibited caring qualities for nurturing and giving inspiration to others. Family was very important to her and family values were exhibited from a young age.

As Anne continued her life journey, she excelled academically. Her educational accomplishments were among some of her greatest accomplishments. In 1970 she earned a degree for Respiratory Therapist at El Centro Community College in Dallas, Texas. In 1977, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies in Secondary Education with a minor in Library Science at Southern University & AM College in Baton Rouge. In 1982, she received a certification in Mild/Moderate Elementary Education in Special Education (Behavioral Disorders) at Southern University & AM College in Baton Rouge. Anne was employed by East Baton Rouge School System which led to a career as an educational professional in the teaching system for over 30 years. Also she was a member of the national Education Association of Teachers Organization.

Anne left an incredible imprint on the lives of her students. She taught them to pursue their coursework that led to successful goal accomplishments in classroom instruction.

In 1972 Anne was married to Albert Heard and through that union her only child, Junias Charles Heard, was born. Her son brought her greatest happiness and she was dedicated to raising him with integral qualities to lead him throughout life.

Anne leaves her cherished memories to one son, Junius Charles Heard (Kristen) of Baton Rouge; one grandson, Christopher Heard; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Heard of Baton Rouge; four sisters, Clevetta Hawkins of Jennings and Shawne Miller, June Maria Durio and Patti Hatch (Regional), all of Baton Rouge; one brother, Ray Benley Gilbreaux Jr. of Baton Rouge; two sisters-in-law, Lisa Guilbeaux and Doris Durio of Jennings; three aunts, including Geradine Provost of Spring Field, Mass., Rosa Marie Perkins of Jennings and Ezora Pullman of Jennings; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Junius Charles Durio; her mother, Louella Thibodeaux Gilbeaux; her stepfather, Ray Benly Gillbeaux Sr.; three brothers, Richard Durio, Cedric Durio and Charles Andre Durio; and one sister, Marsha Gilbeaux.
