LAKE ARTHUR - The family and friends of Mary Grace Dugas Gaspard are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on April 6, 2018, at the age of 85.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Grace Dugas Gaspardwill be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11 a.m., with Father Jay Alexius officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur beginning on Monday, April 9, from 4-9 p.m., with a Cursillo Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 8 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in Thornwell Cemetery.

Mary was born in GueydanA to Nelson Dugas and Rose Guidry Dugas on July 22, 1932. Mary was a bus driver for 21 years, a job in which she loved and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She loved to play cards “Bourré”, play poker at the Casino, to read, to plant flowers and travel with her mother and sisters. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which she adored. Mary was a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary is survived by her two sons, Terry Gaspard (Wanda) of Lake Arthur and Harry Gaspard (Darlene) of Holmwood; her three daughters, Beverly Lougon of Gueydan, Cindy Monceaux of Lake Arthur and JoAnn Gaspard of Lake Arthur; her three brothers, Earl Dugas of Welsh, Walter Dugas of Lake Arthur and Chester Dugas of Jennings; her five sisters, Juanita David of Lake Arthur, Sarah Monceaux of Lake Arthur, Louella Dugas of Lake Arthur, Dianne Dugas of Lake Arthur and Isabelle Durrett of Lake Charles; as well as her 19 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Rose Dugas; her beloved husband, Jeff Gaspard; her two granddaughters, Kasie Hendrickson, Wendy Hendrickson; her son-in-law, Ronnie Lougon; and her brother, Dallas Dugas.

Carrying Mary to her final resting place in Thornwell Cemetery will be Wilcy Monceaux, Aaron Monceaux, Myron Monceaux, T.J. Gaspard, Brian Gaspard, Ronnie Gaspard, Steven Gaspard, Kyle Hendrickson, Tyler Thibodeaux, and Troy Lougon. Honorary pallbearers will be Gavin Benoit, Adrienne Hendrickson and Marcus Hay.
