The annual Jeff Davis Parish Fair arrives in Jennings this week, and is a time when locals and visitors to our parish gather to enjoy days filled with food, fun and carnival rides.

The Might Thomas Carnival Jeff Davis Parish Fair will be in Jennings from Wednesday, Oct. 2 to Saturday, Oct. 5.

Wristbands are available for $22 each for certain times throughout the carnival. Organizer Eddie Eskew said a coupon is available that can be presented to save $2 on a wristband. The coupon can be accessed at www.thomascarnival.com and will also be accepted digitally or by a photo on their phone. The coupon will also be available in today’s, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s edition of the Jennings Daily News.

“It is OK for people to show this to the ticket office on their phones when purchasing wristbands,” he said. “There is no need for people to print out the coupon if they don’t want to.”

The wristbands are available for the following time slots:

• From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

• From 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday.

• From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

• From 12-5 p.m. or 5-11 p.m. on Saturday.

Separate wristbands are required for each time slot.

According to the schedule of events, from 1-6 p.m. on Monday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., school booths may be set up. Also entries must be made in the fairgrounds office from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday for poultry, rabbits, livestocks, agricultural and homemaking entries. The deadline for booth setup is 11 a.m on Wednesday when the judging will be held. The annual talent show is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the fairground pavilion. The talent consists of all Jeff Davis Parish residents, who will showcase their skills with dancing, singing, cheering and more. On, Thursday, the judging of agricultural and homemaking exhibits will kick off the day at 9 a.m. Later that night, representatives from Jeff Davis high schools will take to the fairground stage at 7 p.m. for the annual Queen’s Pageant. The annual parade will roll down Main Street at 9 a.m. on Friday filled with floats, classic cars, marching bands and more. Livestock, poultry and rabbits will be judged between noon and 5 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the 4-H/FFA Fall Classic Livestock Show will be held at the arena including beef, dairy, goat and sheep categories.
