It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Daniel Roger Reed of Jennings announce the unexpected loss of a beloved husband, father and coach, who passed away on Oct. 6, 2021.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2021.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, from 2-9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will reopen Monday at 8 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Danny was born in Ville Platte to Joseph Reed and Jean Duos Reed on March 25, 1950.

Coach Reed started his coaching career at his alma mater, Holy Savior Menard High School, and served Jennings High School as head baseball coach and assistant football coach. Over the 23 years of his coaching career, he coached multiple college athletes, professional athletes and won multiple state and district championships.

He was a school administrator from 1994-2013. He served the Welsh community at Welsh Elementary for four years and his last 15 years as an assistant principal at Jennings High School.

Throughout Coach Reed’s career as a coach, teacher, mentor and administrator, he dedicated his time to the students of these communities. If you were to ask players and coaches who were part of his programs, you would hear more about what he taught them about life than about sports. He had a beautiful ability to bring out the best in every student and athlete he mentored. He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone that

He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone that he met. He loved his community and tried to see the good in every person and took pride in treating people the right way. He devoted his life to making an impact in the lives of those he met one act of kindness at a time.

He loved visiting with his friends, former athletes, former students and the coaches and administrators that he worked with throughout his career. He was an active parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christian Catholic Church and avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

His greatest accomplishment in life was loving his family.

Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Becky Benoit Reed; his sons, David Reed and wife Stephanie of Jennings and Matt Reed of New Orleans; four grandchildren, Ryan, Julianne, Mary Margaret and Caroline; two brothers, Archie Reed and his wife Jackie, and Stephen Reed of Bossier City; three sisters, Christine Maxwell and her husband Scotty of Baton Rouge, Jennifer Lawrence and her husband Wynn of Monroe and Vicki Durham and her husband Jay of Alexandria; and countless other relatives, friends and former students mourning his loss.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Abby Christine Reed; his mother, Jean D. Reed; grandmother Pearl Thibodeaux; paternal grandfather Roger Reed; and maternal grandparents Josiene Duos and Isola Duos.

Gentlemen selected to serve as pallbearers for Coach Reed will be Ronnie Oustalet, Ricky Edwards, Dale Leger, Mark Clawson, Ben Oustalet and Jared Owen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Archie Reed, Stephen Reed and Nolan Clawson.
