LAKE ARTHUR — John Clifford Marceaux was born July 28, 1927, and passed away on January 22, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with Father Jay Alexius officiating.

Visitation will be held at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur from 1-2:45 p.m. as procession leaves for the Church. A Cursillo rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was known as Bill to his friends and family and to his loving seven children, he was simply Dad.

Dad was born in Cypress Point and was a graduate of Gueydan High School. After graduation at the age of 17, Dad enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While Dad attended boot camp, World War ll came to an end.

After completing boot camp, Dad was stationed in San Diego where he outprocessed returning Navy veterans from the Pacific theater of the war. Dad liked to tell us kids about how much joy he saw on the faces of the war veterans as they prepared to return to their families located throughout the United States.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Dad settled in Lake Arthur and on May 6, 1952, he married Marie Mazie Miller.

Dad started a retail clothing business named “Style Mart” and soon had clothing stores in Lake Arthur, Gueydan, Kaplan and Cameron.

Dad was active in the Catholic church and served on the parish council of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. He was a long-term teacher of catechism and was active in the Cursillo movement. He was also a regular volunteer at the Cursillo Center.

On Oct. 12, 2021, Dad was predeceased in death by Mazie.

He is survived by his seven children, John Philip Marceaux (Janet), Stephen Gerard Marceaux (Marietta), Mary Ann Henry (Mike), Karen Marceaux, Michael David Marceaux (Lillette), Veronica Marie Plummer (Richard) and Gregory Paul Marceaux (Nina); his 17 grandchildren, Alex Marceaux, Collin Marceaux, Sarah Rizzuto, Joshua Marceaux, Jenny Vick, Jacob Thibodeaux, Tommy Thibodeaux, Mikey Thibodeaux, Mark Leger, Matt Leger, Spencer Marceaux, Brian Landry, Michelle Landry, Holden Marceaux, John Paul Marceaux, Quinn Marceaux and Mazie Marceaux; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

Dad was also preceded in death by three of his grandchildren, Chris Boudreaux, Marshall Leger and Celeste Landry.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dad’s caregivers, Nikie Bertrand, Ginny Rose Benoit and Delores Broussard, who showed him kindness and compassion in his final years of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in memory of Mr. John Clifford Marceaux to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur.
