OBITUARY

It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Kenneth Shoats passed away peacefully with the love of family and friends surrounding him on Sept. 12, 2022.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Kenneth’s life was held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, with Father Keith Pellerin officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, from 4-8 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6 p.m. by Melanie. Visitation resumed Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass.

Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery, where he was laid to rest next to his parents.

Kenneth was born in Jennings on Aug. 1, 1947, to Durphy Shoats and Agnes Cormier Shoats. Kenneth was a directional driller for Halliburton until he retired and a great provider for his family. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing. Kenneth spent almost 20 years living in Venezuela. While there, he loved fishing for peacock bass. Most of all, Kenneth loved being with family making cane syrup and listening to Cajun Music. Kenneth was a kind and generous man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Susie Marques Shoats of Lake Charles; his sons, David Dugas of Huntsville, Texas, and Kris Bonin of Crosby, Texas; his daughters, Aimee Shoats Strong, Keisha Shoats and Agnes “Sophia” Shoats, all of Lake Charles; his grandchildren, Tabitha, Noah, Kaiden, Kameron, Lilli, Pippa, Caroline and William; his six great-grandchildren and his sisters, Jovita Shoats Guidry (Gerald) of Iowa and Cynthia Shoats Landry of Denham Springs.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Durphy and Agnes Shoats, and his daughter, Rachel Shoats.

Those chosen to honor Kenneth as his pallbearers will be Noah Touchet, Kameron Kratzer, Josh Guidry, Cory Guidry, Kris Bonin and Darren Newman.
