A Mass of Christian burial for Laura Elizabeth Istre, 88, of Jennings will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, from 4-10 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral mass.

Burial will immediately follow in LeBlanc Cemetery. Laura was born in Roanoke on Aug. 31, 1934, to Lombera Young and Ezar LaVergne Young. She was called to her Heavenly Father on Feb. 4, 2023, while surrounded by her loving family.

Laura was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose greatest pleasure came from her love for her family. She loved listening to Elton John, playing pokeno and doing crafts. Her kind, caring actions and words taught all who knew her the definitions of love and family.

Laura leaves behind the love and memories made over her lifetime to cherish to her children, Elaine Istre of Mermentau, Dale Lopez of Mermentau, Phyllis Garcia of Mermentau, Pauline Rougeaux of Alexandria and Clifford Istre of Evangeline; her sister, Mildred Sonnier of Elton and her grandchildren, Kirt Istre (Debra), Jonathan Lopez (Cindy), Brandy Fuselier (Scott), Karen Deshotel (Wally), Lacie Garcia (Nathan), Jessice Guidry (Garrett) Jeremey Rougeaux (Celeste Faciane), Stephen Rougeaux (Erin), Christopher Istre, Christine Istre, Chelsea Breaux (Cody) and Michael Vincent, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and other extended family.

Laura now rejoices in Heaven with her parents, Lombera and Ezar Young; her beloved husband, Clifton Istre; two sisters, Virginia Young and Mabel Ramour; her granddaughter, Tasha Istre Smith and her lifelong friend, Rita Guidry.

Her family wishes to thank Dr. Patrick Griffith and his staff for their many years of compassionate care given to Laura.
