Lula Mae Lantz Hebert
Lula Mae Lantz, 98, passed away peacefully at her daughter Pam’s home in Richardson, Texas, on Thursday night, Aug.12, 2021.
She heard her six brothers, two sisters, mother, father, husband, two grandsons, daughter-in-law and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews and cousins calling out her name with joyous celebration and whispering “Jesus is waiting for you!”
She decided the time had come and she needed a rest after 98 years; and what better company to have, when you decide to take that heavenly journey and enjoy peace in His presence.
A Christian Burial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, in the chapel at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, followed by a funeral procession to Calvary Cemetery in Jennings.

Visitation for Lula will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, from 3-7 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Lula was born in Iota on June 27, 1923. Lula was the seventh child born to Joseph Lantz and Eva Leger Lantz.
In September 1941, Lula eloped and married in Pasadena, Texas, her best friend and love, Eldridge “Beo” Hebert, who preceded her in death in 1988. She loved family gatherings and, sometimes to a fault, where she wanted to handle all of the cooking and baking and, to no one’s surprise, it was always a masterpiece. Her hands were rarely still, always fixing, cooking, preparing or offering something to anyone who visited her at her home. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren all had special food orders — mini pancakes, coconut pie, chocolate pecan fudge, bread and butter pickles, strawberry cake, shrimp gumbo and her incredible dirty (but clean) rice, and let’s not forget that incredible sweet potato casserole with that “melt in your mouth” pecan streusel topping.
Lula was known for her famous fig pies, priceless fig preserves, beautiful flower gardens, scrumptious vegetable gardens and seamstress skills. As her daughter said, “Mom made everything except our shoes!”
She graduated from Iota High School in the spring of 1940 and was recognized as one of the top players in the statewide basketball tournament where Iota and Crowley competed for the state championship in 1939. And … Iota High School won that year and she was named Outstanding Point Guard for the tournament.
Since early 2019, Lula became a true Texan but retained her Cajun opinions and seasonings. She resided in Texas with her daughter Pam, who has been her primary caretaker and cooking partner.
She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and their accomplishments. She loved them all dearly and loved being “Funny Maw Maw” to all of her grand and great-grandchildren and especially to her great great-grandchild.
Lula Mae is survived by her son, Kenneth and his wife Emily of Monroe; her son Douglas of Jennings; her son Ronald of Downsville; her daughter Joy Jordan and her husband Perry of Downsville; and her daughter Pamela Young of Richardson, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Dean Hebert and his wife Connie of Monroe; Kimberly Nolan of Dallas, Texas; Alan Hebert and his wife Amy of Lafayette; and Nicole Jordan and Casey Jordan of Downsville. Lula is survived by seven great-grandchildren, Joshua Nolan of Anna, Texas; Reagan Hebert and his wife Ali and daughter of West Monroe; Carter Hebert and his fiancé Madeline of Monroe; Caroline Hebert of Monroe; Evan Hebert of Monroe; John Henry Hebert of Baton Rouge; and Graham Hebert of Monroe. Lula Mae is also survived by one very active, spontaneous and entertaining great, great-grandchild, Carlo Nolan of Anna, Texas.
Lula was preceded in death by her husband, Beo; her two grandsons, Chip and Kevin Nolan; her daughter-in-law, Julia Reagan Hebert; her mother and father; and her eight siblings, Inez Lantz Cart, Ora Lantz Richard, Wilbert Lantz, Remy Lantz, Gilbert Lantz, Web Lantz, Theodore Lantz and Zannie Charles Rasberry, along with many other relatives from both the Lantz and Hebert families.
Carrying Lula Mae to her final place of rest will be her grandsons and great-grandsons as pallbearers.
