Mary Dasch

Mary Dasch, 74, was welcomed into Heaven on Jan. 11, 2020.

Going home services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at First United Methodist Church of Welsh, with Pastor Angela Bulhof officiating.

The family welcomed friends Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, from 3-9 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. Visitation will resume today, Wednesday, from 8 a.m. until time of service.

She will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Cemetery, close enough to home that an extension cord can reach so she will never miss her favorite shows.

Mary was born Feb. 5, 1945, to John Hill and Mary Lena Cline and was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Welsh High School Class of 1963. Like her mother, her lifelong calling was the care of others, so she began working as a nurse’s aide at Jennings American Legion Hospital. In July 1964, the man she would call her husband crossed the threshold of the hospital wearing his crisp Naval uniform. She became Mrs. Lionel Dasch Jr. on Christmas Eve 1964. With Lionel at her side, she returned to school, attending Sowela Technical, earning her LPN degree and graduating in 1965.

In 1967, she took on the role of mom, welcoming Pamela and, in 1969, John. She spent several years as their caregiver, their favorite story teller, nurse and confidant. In 1976 she returned to work full time, perfectly balancing home life and work, her children and family always coming first.

Mary was perfectly content with home life, unless it was a beach in Galveston or Florida. “Just drop me off on a beach and I am happy. Simple, huh?” When she was not enjoying the beach she was wetting her hook at any available fishing hole or planning their next trip to the camp in Toledo Bend.

In 1999, Mary and Lionel built their forever home in Welsh, a place to live our their retirement. Like the day they were married, together, they embarked on the joys of retirement. “Retirement is wonderful!!” she often said, humbly boasting about spending time with her husband of 55 years, her children and grandchildren. When she was not with her family, she enjoyed spending time with her furbabies, her garden and canning, unless her favorite shows, “Bold and the Beautiful” and “Jeopardy,” were on.

Those left to carry on her loving nature are her husband, Lionel Dasch; her daughter; Pamela (Butch) Authement; her son, John Dasch; four grandchildren, Cody Gibson, Brittany Gibson, Emily Dasch and Hunter Dasch; and one soon-to-arrive great-granddaughter, Raelynne Ann.

She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents; her brother, James Cline; and her nephew, Chantler Fruge.
