Funeral services for Nannette Benoit Briggs, 77, who died on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Interment will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery in Jennings.

Reverend James Brady, JCL, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette, conducted the funeral services.

The family requested visitation be observed in Martin and Castille’s Southside location Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, from 2-7 p.m., with a rosary at 5:30 p.m., and Monday from 8 a.m. until time of services.

Nannette attended McNeese State University where she graduated with a degree in education. During her years at McNeese, she was voted Little Colonel, La Belle and Homecoming Queen.

Nannette was a dedicated mother to her two boys, with whom she made fond memories during many outdoor adventures such as fishing in the Gulf, duck hunting, skeet shooting, traveling to the Louisiana plantations and following Little League baseball for many years.

One of her greatest joys was the birth of her five grandsons, to which the oldest affectionately named her Nina. She holds the travel speed record from Lafayette to Lake Charles to ensure her presence at the birth of her first grandson.

Nannette enjoyed traveling, especially sailing around the Caribbean and trips to North Carolina with her husband, Don. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Nannette gained spiritual fulfillment during her ACTS retreat and was a dedicated member of the Come, Lord Jesus prayer group. She was also a member of a book and quilting club. Nannette was a gifted vocalist and loved to sing. She enjoyed spending quality time with all of her family and girl trips with her sisters. Nannette’s kind, loving, compassionate presence will live within all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Don Briggs of Lafyette; six children, Timothy (Alanna) Castle and Christopher (Lisa) Castle from Lake Charles, Tammy (Mark) Milam of Lafayette,Brett Briggs from Vero Beach, Fla., Andon (Beth) Briggs from Trussville, Ala., and Gifford (Jackie) Briggs from Tallahassee, Fla.; her grandchildren, Lansen Castle, Timothy Castle, Larkin Castle, Andrew Castle, Nicholas Castle, Faren Daigle, Chance Daigle, Devin Briggs (Kati), Colby Briggs, Sarah Noel (Taylor), Summer Simm (Alex), Ash Briggs, Chloe Briggs and Max Briggs; great-grandchildren, Jesse Briggs, Marci Briggs and Sailor Noel; four siblings, Edith Reed of Sulphur, Rebecca Reed of Jennings, Victor Benoit of Lafayette, Theresa (Damon) Cormier of Lake Charles and sister-in-law, Heidi Benoit of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by her loving extended siblings, Carolyn Geldmacher (Mike) of Carencro,Debbie Trahan (Greg) of Sulphur, Charlie Woods (Sherry) of Sulphur and Wendy Brown of Lafayette.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Amar and Alice Benoit; one brother, Brandon Benoit; and her stepmother, Eva “Lucy” Lucille Benoit.

Pallbearers will be Lansen Castle, Timothy Castle, Andrew Castle, Larkin Castle, Nicholas Castle and Chance Daigle.
