JENNINGS — The family of Mrs. Ollie Calhoun Tietje, 88, of Roanoke, announces her passing from this life on Feb. 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024 at Roanoke Methodist Church beginning at 10 a.m., with Pastor Abby Salazar officiating. Burial will take place in Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

A gathering of friends and family was held at the church on Monday Feb. 5, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 8 a.m. until the time of the service.

Ollie was born on Dec. 27, 1935, in Sikes to Henry Calhoun and Jewel Johnston Calhoun. She went to school and earned her bachelor’s degree in education. She was a teacher for over twenty years, in which mostly taught at Hathaway High School. She was very devoted to her community. She was a member of Roanoke Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma and a volunteer for the VFC. In her spare time, she always stayed active, enjoying yoga, fishing, sewing, painting, reading and cross-stitching. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a loving person who always cherished family, especially her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband, Cyrus Tietje; son, Dennis (Trudy) Tietje; daughter, Linda (Randy) Barnes; daughter-in-law, Lesley Tietje; brothers, Royce (Rita) Calhoun; grandchildren, Violet (Ryan) Jolie, Michael Barnes, William (Heather) Tietje, Emma (Bob Gordon) Tietje, Donavan (Lauren) Tietje and Logan Tietje; great-grandchildren, Amiell, Eli, Eleanor, Isaiah, Corbin, Elijah, Jack and Lily.

She is now rejoicing in Heaven with her parents, Make and Jewel Calhoun; son, Robert Tietje; sisters, Florice Young, Shirley Archibald, Marie Pilgram, Virginia Cambell, Kathleen Brister and June Strange; and brothers, Sherwood Calhoun, Farris Calhoun, Buford Calhoun, Earl Calhoun, John Calvin Calhoun, Rushel Calhoun and Mack Calhoun.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Roanoke Methodist Church.
