LAKE ARTHUR - It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Velma Reed announces her passing from this life on April 14, 2020, at the age of 65.

Graveside dervices for Velma Reed, 65, of Lake Arthur will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Arthur today, Thursday, April 16, 2020, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jared officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur beginning Thursday, April 16, from 9-11 a.m.

Velma was born in Kinder to Clifford Pitre and Versie Mae Bolfa on Sept. 25, 1954. Velma was a homemaker who dedicated her life to the care of her family, which she loved dearly. In her spare time, Velma loved cooking, playing bingo and cards, and she also enjoyed going fishing and being pampered. Her greatest joys came from spending time with all of her family, especially her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left behind to cherish their memories of Velma are her husband, Clayton Reed, Sr.; her three sons, Clayton “Tee” Reed, Jr. (Debby) of Port Barre, Steven Troy Reed (Sammie) of Jennings and Ricky Reed, Sr. (Shannon) of New Iberia; her daughter, Kristy Reed McBride (Aaron) of Lake Arthur; her two brothers, Donald Pitre (Barbara) of Jennings and Tommy Pitre (Theresa) of Baytown, Texas; her four sisters, Thelma Portie (Cecil) of Jennings, Merline Landry (Edward) of Jennings, Geneva Mire of Lake Arthur and Bernadine Lacoste (Ronald) of Lake Arthur; as well as her 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Velma is now rejoicing with those who preceded her in death, including her parents, Clifford and Versie Mae Pitre; her brother, Jerald Pitre; her sister, Lou Anna Teal; her two grandchildren, Shelby Reed and Adriana Plaisance; one niece; and four nephews.

Those chosen to honor Velma as her pallbearers will be Marcus Bagwell, Aaron McBride, Nathan Morris, Kenny Landry, Jerrel Lacoste and David Lacoste.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton “Tee” Reed, Jr., Steven Troy Reed and Jerald Pitre, Jr.
