Burial followed in Thornwell Cemetery.

Vernice Paul Marceaux was born Oct. 10, 1931, to Duprelon and Euphame Marceaux. He was absolutely adored by his parents and his sister Emelie. Vernice passed away on Jan. 13, 2022. His family is ecstatic that he is now rejoicing with the angels, and they will miss him every single day.

He was raised on rice farms in Cypress Pointe, Welsh and Thornwell and it was around Cypress Pointe where he met and married his beautiful wife of nearly 72 years, Lelya “Totee” Marceaux. Vernice and Totee settled in Thornwell where they raised seven children – Betty, Gerald, Sandra, Ella, Monica, Glenden and Skeith Marceaux. They proudly raised their children in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic church and afforded them all an education at St. Maria Goretti School in Lake Arthur.

Vernice and Totee were active in their community, church and in their childrens’ school and lives. Their lives were centered around their children and their church. They were faithful parents and parishioners.

In 2016 after more than 60 years in “the country,” Vernice and Totee moved “to town” (Jennings) where Vernice quickly realized that if he were going to live in town he’d have to buy and wear short pants (his words). After retiring to town, Vernice and Totee spent the majority of their time sitting in their sunroom watching the birds and squirrels. When they weren’t in their sunroom, they were probably enjoying their most notable hobby – dancing at DI’s.

Vernice enjoyed a long, full and happy life and was magnificently loved by his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and great great-grandkids. In their minds and hearts, Vernice is the ideal of what all pawpaws should aspire to be and the supreme example of love and commitment.

Vernice is survived by his beautiful wife, Lelya “Totee” Marceaux; sons Gerald Marceaux, Glenden (Sharla) Marceaux and Skeith (Merlene) Marceaux; daughters Sandra LaPoint, Ella Fontenot and Monica Marceaux; grandchildren Andrew (Iesha) Benoit, Karen Benoit, Kirk (Stephanie) Guidry, Craig (Roxi) Guidry, Stephanie Fontenot, Joseph (Kristi) Fontenot, Wesley Fontenot, Logan Doise, Zachary (Crystal) Marceaux, Jachin (Brittney Broussard) Marceaux, Elijah (Samantha) Marceaux and Shelby (Hayden) Lambright; as well as 13 great-grandchildren and 17 great great-grandchildren.

Those chosen to honor Vernice as his pallbearers were Zachary Marceaux, Jachin Marceaux, Elijah Marceaux, Wesley Fontenot, Andrew Benoit and Craig Guidry.

Honorary pallbearers were Joseph Fontenot and Kirk Guidry.
